Optimizing Content for SEO using Cosmic

The content game is a competitive one, and teams of developers and content editors are being tasked with building light-weight content-powered applications that rank for the search terms they require. 

The Cosmic Community has rolled out an Extension that helps content editors actively plan and manage their content and keywords. Extensions are a powerful new way to create custom experiences within Cosmic.  Now you can build applications directly into your Bucket Dashboard, giving you the power to create customized views and communicate with third party APIs to extend the functionality of Cosmic.  

In this blog I demonstrate using the Cosmic SEO Manager Extension to optimize my blog's keywords for better search engine rankings.

My blog has a lot of Blog Post Objects that are set up in a familiar manner with Authors, Titles and Thumbnail Images. I want to optimize my content for SEO, so I install the SEO Manager Extension.  I choose my Bucket (Carson Gibbons) with which to install the Extension. Cosmic gives me table views of:

1. My Installed Extensions
2. New Extensions for installation
3. Contribute an Extension to the Community

By clicking "Go To Extension", I'm able to start managing the keywords I'm targeting for each blog post based on title and content appearance. Since most of my blogs are for a developer audience, a lot of the keywords I'm optimizing for are a programming language or framework query. Plug in the keywords you're targeting into the field and watch your score populate with green check marks.

Lucky for me, these terms are often in my Title and Content for each blog post, so most of my score are 100's. Occasionally I get a 50% score if the keyword(s) I'm optimizing for are present in the content of the blog but aren't present in the Title. I'll take the ding and learn more for next time. 😃
